Florian did his undergrad in Virology at the University of Glasgow, mostly focusing on the molecular biology of viruses and protists. During his PhD he turned towards systems immunology techniques to understand acquired immunity to vivax and falciparum malaria in controlled human reinfection studies. Favourite techniques include CyTOF & ex vivo models during infection. During his postdoc in the Spence lab he continued working on these systems immunology themes and branched out towards scRNAseq.
When not in the lab you can find Florian out on a run, out at a gig and, of course, sampling gins (for the quinine, naturally).
